We had booked 2 nights in Palm Springs as we don’t have to arrive in Phoenix until Friday. Phoenix is 250 miles away and we’ll try and set out early before it gets too hot. The only reason we’re going there is to pick up a cheap ($5/day) rental car as the city doesn’t seem to have a lot going for it. I think we’ll head south to the coast after that where it should be cooler.
They say you should carry a gallon of water a day/person if you are crossing the desert. I suppose you could get stuck in the middle of nowhere if your car broke down but there was fairly heavy traffic yesterday so I’m fairly sure we could flag someone down if we have to. We’ll be crossing the Mojave desert which I believe is fairly mild as deserts go and it isn’t even June yet. Death Valley is to the North so we’ll bypass that.
